Devotion for the time.

November 5, 2008

January 20, 2009 will be the inauguration of our new president. It is our responsibility as Christians to pray for the newly appointed leader of our nation. 1 Timothy 2:1-3 says, “I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” NIV Romans 13:1 says, “Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.” NIV Paul wrote this at a time in which his nation and his people were under the dominion of the Roman Empire. Paul wrote this when the leader he was praying for was the one who ordered his execution.
John McCain so eloquently proclaimed last night that the man who was his “opponent” will soon be his “president”. As only a veteran can, he went on to announce his devotion and dedication to the great nation he has served called the United States Of America. Our nation has made its decision. We Christians have made our decision as well. We have decided to live by the guidelines of God’s Word. We have chosen to be a people subject to and in prayer for the leaders of our nation. This is our duty not only as Americans, but also as Christians.
In the process of Senator Obama becoming President Obama he will be given classified intelligence reserved only for our commander and chief. With that knowledge will come a greater understanding of the decisions that have been made by the previous administration. When Mr. Obama begins to make the difficult decisions he alone can make, he will need our prayers. When the media that has embraced him begins to abandon him, he will need our prayers. When the many special interest groups discover he is not able to deliver all their expectations for him and begin to attack him, he will need our prayers.
It is our responsibility to pray for our president and hold him up as he leads our nation.
